The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, (NDLEA), Kebbi State Command says, it will embark on a sensitization campaign on the consequences of drug abuse in the state.

The newly posted Commandant of the NDLEA in Kebbi State, Usman Sule, said this when he paid a courtesy call on the Secretary to the State Government, Babale Umar.

The NDLEA boss said the command’s intention to engage stakeholders in the sensitization is in consideration of the fact that over the years, the NDLEA has recorded less positive results as a result of lack of awareness.

Mr Sule appealed to the state government to support the Command with operational vehicles and logistics, to carry out its intended awareness campaign against drug abuse in the state.

He said the sensitization would cover the three senatorial districts in the state, to meet traditional rulers, political and religious leaders, as well as educate women on the consequences of drug activities.

The commandant lamented how drug dealers influence youths, and destroy their careers and future with drug activities for material gains, forgetting its consequences.

“We are aware that the Kebbi State Government is mindful of these consequences, and is doing great in rendering support to the NDLEA, I want to thank you for that” Mr Usman Sule said.

The Secretary to the Kebbi State Government, Babale Umar, assured the command of the state government’s continued support, to enable it carry out its activities effectively.

Babale Umar promised to inform the governor of NDLEA’s request for operational vehicles and logistics and expressed optimism that the governor will respond to the request positively.

He also emphasised that parents have a vital role to play in the control of drug abuse.
