FG to renovate State Museums as Itshekiris Celebrate Late warrior

The Nigerian government says it has concluded plans to renovate nine museums located in some States across the country.

Director General for the national commission for museums and monuments, professor Abba Isa Tijjani, made this known in Koko, when he led the federal government delegation to attend the annual memorial celebration of the late Itshekiri warrior, Nanna Olomu, in Warri north local government area of Delta state.

Annually, descendants of late Chief Nanna Olomu celebrate his return as the Itshekiri warrior who fought the British in 1894 but was defeated and sent on exile to gold coast in the year 1896.

After being on exiled for a decade, Nanna Olomu finally returned to his hometown in Koko on the 8th of August in the year 1906.

That remarkable date has always been celebrated.

The life and times of the late Itshekiri warrior has also left foot prints on the sands of time.

A delegation from the national commission for museums and monuments which attended the event revealed government’s plans to honor the Itshekiri warrior by renovating the Nanna living history museum situated in koko.

The memorial celebration of the late Itshekiri legend, Chief Nanna Olomu climaxed with traditional songs and dance steps performed by the Itshekiri cultural group.
