National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) has suspend its five months old strike with effect from Friday, August 26, 2023; granting government a grace of three months to attend to all of its demands.

President of NAAT, Ibeji Nwokoma disclosed this at the end of an emergency National Executive Council meeting with 58 branches voting in favour of the decision to suspend the strike for another three months.

Fourteen other branches however voted against move by the union to sheath its sword.

NAAT embarked on strike last March to demand the implementation of the 2009 FGN/University- based unions agreement. It also called for the implementation of the National Minimum Wage amid other welfare issues.

The workers’ union called on students on research to return to the laboratories, studios and farms on Friday, August 26, 2023.

The union however kicked strongly against Federal Government stance of “No Work, No Pay”; calling for the payment of salaried owed during the period of strike.

This was as it warned against any attempt to victimize any of its members for participating in the strike.

The Academic Staff of Universities (ASUU) is the only university- based union that is yet to suspend its strike. The lecturers have issued Federal Government fresh conditions before they can do so.
