As Nigerian universities remain shut due to the over 7 months strike by the academic staff union of universities, the speaker of Nigeria’s house of representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila and the leadership of the House are set to meet with the Ministers of education and finance and the leadership of the aggrieved union.
In a statement by the Clerk, House of Representatives Yahaya Danzaria, the lawmakers are concerned about the lingering strike which seems to have defied all efforts to reach an agreement between Federal Government and the striking lecturers.
The house further commended the several interventions of some stakeholders in the 7 months of the industrial action, saying that it will not relent in its effort to ensure that an end to the strike is achieved.
The meeting which is scheduled to hold Tuesday the 20th of September at the instance of the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, is expected to have the Ministers of Education, Finance and leadership of ASUU in attendance.
Both chambers of the National Assembly will be resuming from their almost 2 months annual recess on Tuesday.
