The Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has assented to the law for the establishment of a Peace building and Reconciliation Commission in the state.
The United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Matthias Schmale witnessed the signing at the Government House Makurdi.
The peace building and reconciliation commission bill was officially signed into law by the chief security officer of the State Governor Samuel Ortom as critical United nations partners observed keenly.

There could have been no better time to sign this peace bill into law than the day set aside globally to mark the international day of peace.
Benue State has had its unique insecurity challenges which escalated into mass killings and displacements in worrisome numbers necessitating the adoption of the sustainable development goal number 16 which encourages peace justice and strong institutions.
The Benue State peace commission will be a key mechanism for coordinating peaceful responses to conflicts as they arise.
