Hundreds of travellers scheduled to fly into Nigeria from different countries are stranded after an air traffic control strike grounded flights in and out of West and Central Africa at the weekend.

AIT.live gathered that workers for Aerial Navigation Safety in Africa and Madagascar, who regulate air traffic control across 18 countries, downed tools to protest poor working conditions and salaries defying court rulings and government ban barring them from doing so.

Several travellers due to fly into Nigerian international airports from different African countries say their scheduled flights have been delayed since Friday while aircrafts are grounded as a result of the ongoing strike.

On Friday, the Agency for Aerial Navigation safety in Africa and Madagascar, ASECNA expressed disappointment over trade unionists of air traffic controllers action to still go on with the strike in spite of the administrative, institutional and court rulings to manage the crisis.

The Agency however advised stranded travellers to check airlines online websites for updates.
