Ending Crude Oil Theft: Imo government to dredge Urashi River

In an effort to end crude oil theft and promote economic activities in the State, Imo State government, South East Nigeria has commenced the process of dredging the popular Urashi River in Oguta Local Government Area of the State.

Governor Hope Uzodimma on assessment tour to the River says the project, when completed will also address the issue of insecurity in the State.

Crude oil theft and pipe line vandalism have been reccurring incidents in the oil producing areas of Imo State.

The State government in partnership with the Federal government is not only dredging the waterways, but has also established a Naval Base at Oguta Council area to effectively check security challenges in the troubled areas.

Governor Hope Uzodimma on an assessment tour to the project site, pointed out that creating the water channel will help in the fight against Sea piracy and boost economic activities in the area

The Group Managing Director, Nigeria Navy Holdings, Serelander Lasa observed that the setting up of the Base will assist in ensuring adequate security in Imo State.

Governor Uzodimma as part of his gas industrialization program, has ear marked the establishment of an economic zone at the Urashi water front to secure the area from crude oil thefts and make the State habitable.
