Climate Change: Oxfam/Bauchi Govt. to develop risk management framework

BAUCHI

Following the persistent flood disasters witnessed almost every year in some parts of Bauchi State, the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, in collaboration with the Oxfam LINE Project, have met with key stakeholders in disaster management, to develop a Risk Management Framework.

The Country Director of Oxfam LINE, Vincent Ahbonsi, explained that fighting Climate Change is one of the Global Affairs that is currently going on in Bauchi.

Speakers at the two days of stakeholders’ meetings, focussed on developing a framework for climate change in Bauchi State.

Samuel Lashom,the representative of the Oxfam LINE Project harps on the need for collaboration with the Bauchi State Government in achieving the desired goal.

The Chairman of the Bauchi State Emergency Management Agency, Mohammed lnuwa Bello said the lack of political will by governments on budgetary allocations and implementation of Disaster Risk Management, are major hindrances.

Also, the Chairman House Committee On The Environment at the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Musa Nakwada, and Oxfam LINE Consultant On Environment, Abdullahi Jalam, both agreed on a collective approach to fighting the challenges.

The stakeholders at the two-day workshop are expected to come up with a workable Risk Management Framework that will aid in fighting the menace of future disasters, through early planning in Bauchi.
