Illegal Mining: Kwara NSCDC parades suspected miners

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, Kwara State Command has arrested eleven suspected illegal miners operating in Lade Community a suburb of Patigi town in Patigi local government area of the state.

Parading the suspects at the NSCDC Command headquarters in Ilorin the state capital, the Public Relations Officer, Olasunkanmi Ayeni said these illegal activities are pure economic sabotage noting that they also have their security implications as bandits use the mining avenues to perpetrate evil acts.

The issue of illegal miners operating in Kwara State is fast becoming a serious concern to the government and security agencies as this is not the first time these illegal miners would be arrested.

The most recent is the apprehension of eleven suspects by the operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, at about 2 am at Lade community in Patigi local government area of Kwara State, the NSCDC as a security agency said the effects of these illegal activities could be grave on the security and economic situation of the state and the nation at large.

The NSCDC Public Relations Officer, Olasunkanmi also maintained that the suspects would be prosecuted in accordance with the law of the land

Similarly, Justice Muhammed Sani of the Federal Hight court siting in Ilorin has convicted and sentenced a 29-year-old Chinese national, Gang Deng to a five-year imprisonment over offences bordering on illegal mining and possession of crude minerals without lawful authority.

Deng was arrested along Tsaragi in Share, Edu local government area of Kwara State and arraigned by the Ilorin Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
