The National Population Commission, NPC, has restated its commitment towards ensuring a zero-error-free 2023 Population And Housing Census, to usher in the needed development in the country.

The Federal Commissioner, National Population Commission, in charge of Katsina State, Bala Banye, said this while flagging off the Trial Post Enumeration Survey, PES, in Daura, said the essence of the survey is to cross-check for coverage errors in the recently concluded Trial Census, to get the 2023 census right.

Having concluded the Trial Census in July, the National Population Commission is out to test the accuracy and data generated, with the commencement of a Post Enumeration Survey, PES, which is a statistically representative survey, that the commission will use to check the accuracy of the Trial Census, conducted in July 2022.

The Federal Commissioner, National Population Commission, in charge of Katsina State, Bala Banye, hinted that a total of 127 Enumeration Areas, in one Local Government Area in one state, in each of the six geopolitical zones, will participate in the exercise, to commence from October 22 to November 2, 2022.

Out of the total numbers, Daura in Katsina State has 15 enumeration areas, with 5 each from Ubandawaki B, Mazoji B and Madobi B, which in turn, will assist in thorough preparations, ahead of the 2023 Population And Housing Census.

According to Banye, the PES will allow the commission, to determine how many people were counted twice , or counted in the wrong place, and designed to redress these possible errors, in the census process.

While noting that the exercise is in line with the United Nations Principles and recommendations for population and housing census, the Federal Commissioner said to achieve its objectives, an independent Team has been constituted.

Banye added that, in some cases, the visit of the PES Enumerator to a household can be more than once for verification of data collected.
