Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has pleaded for the support and cooperation of residents and traders in the areas where three major flyover bridges are being constructed.
Speaking when he inspected the progress of work on the bridges on Thursday, Governor Wike pleaded with all those whose properties have been marked for demolition to vacate them before Tuesday next week, saying that compensations have already been paid while notices have also been duly served to all those affected.
Un-announced, the governor inspected a number of ongoing projects including the three flyover bridges simultaneously being built by construction giant, Julius Berger.
Anxious to have the projects completed on time, the governor wants the construction company to take advantage of the window provided by the current dry season to speed up work.
But as he was to discover, occupants of the structures marked for demolition to pave way for the bridges are yet to vacate the properties even after notices were duly served and compensations paid. While pleading for understanding, Governor Wike says the projects are for the greater good of the state.
Also on Thursday, the governor inspecting the upgrade of road infrastructure at the old government reserved area of Port Harcourt.
