Rivers Governor, Nyesom Wike and PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has dared the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu to stop the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom or any other candidate of the party from contesting the 2023 general elections saying that the former President of the Senate is just playing to the gallery and has no power to do so.

Iyorchia Ayu had while addressing his kinsmen in Gboko, Benue State last Friday stated that he has the powers to stop Ortom who is one of the four Governors sympathetic to Wike from contesting the 2023 general elections. He also stated that nobody can sack him as National Chairman of the PDP.

Responding, Governor Wike says the matter was never about “sack”; but about keeping to the promise made and respecting the party’s constitution which states that the Party’s National and Chairman and Presidential Candidate cannot come from the same region or zone of the country.

Wike is not letting Ayu’s comments lie low, as he has dared the PDP National Chairman to stop Ortom from contesting the Benue North-West Senatorial election if he can.

He says Ayu has by his action demonstrated his ungratefulness to one of his benefactors.

He says the PDP under Iyorchia Ayu has also demonstrated to Nigerians that it lacks integrity. Governor Wike who again called into question, Ayu’s integrity made fresh allegations of corruption against the PDP National Chairman.

And for the umpteenth time, Governor Wike says he has no intention of leaving the PDP and that instead he would remain and continue to fight for truth, equity and inclusiveness in the party.
