Accusations and counter accusations have continued to trail Delta state government demolition exercise carried out on an approximately 200 hectres of land situated in Akwulo-Estate Idumu-gbe Asaba, Delta state capital.

According to the village head of the community Ogbueshi Eugene Umunna, the community had a Writ of Possession dated 1976 over the land which is located off the Immigration office axis of the Asaba-Ughelli expressway, as well as a Warrant of Possession dated May 2004.

But the state government through the Commissioner for information Charles Aniagwu accused the community of encroaching into state government acquired lands.

Some owners of the demolished buildings who bought the lands from the villagers count their loses and frustration.

Ogbueshi Umunna accused the Delta state government of embarking on the demolition exercise despite an existing injunction prohibiting trespass on the land.

Commissioner for Information on behalf of the state government explained that the land was duely acquired by the state government and accused the Idumu-gbe people of being economical with the true position of the land.

According to Aniagwu, the triangular land belongs to three communities Asaba, Ibuzo and Okpanam and challenged Idumu-gbe to prove their claim.

The Idumugbe people claimed that over 50 houses were demolished while some of the tractors used for the exercise still had its presence within the vicinity.
