Taraba State Government says it will do all that is necessary, within the confines of the law, to ensure peace and security for its citizens, as the elections draw closer.

The State Government was responding to allegations by a federal legislator from the state, who accused the State Governor, Darius Ishaku, of arresting the Director General of his Campaign Council.

At a press briefing with the National Assembly Press Corps, Danjuma Shiddi, the Member representing Wukari/Ibi Federal Constituency, accused Taraba State Governor Darius Ishaku, of arresting the Director General of his Campaign Council, Yakubu Samaila, popularly known as Young JP.

Taraba State Government has reacted to the allegations in a press briefing, by the Commissioner for Information, Lois Emmanuel in Jalingo, insisting that Governor Darius Ishaku, has no time to join issues with political thugs and that it is a case of the security agencies carrying out their duties on persons engaged in disrupting peace and security.

The commissioner says the person in question, Yakubu Samaila, was arrested by the police in Takum Local Council, in the act of attacking perceived political opponents, and destroying campaign billboards, which caused panic among other residents.

Additionally, the accused has a precedent of engaging in political violence in the state, jumping bail, and illegally moving around with sirens.

The Taraba State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of the suspect and says investigations are ongoing, and that the suspect will soon be charged in court.

The police say the charges against the suspect include assaulting a police officer, criminal conspiracy, inciting disturbance, and mischief.

The Taraba State Government says, it will not condone sponsored political violence, to the detriment of the fragile peace being enjoyed in the state, and will ensure a conducive environment for all political parties.
