Weather Alert

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency,NiMET has raised an alert that the dry weather season accompanied by Harmattan winds will begin northern part of the country in the next 24 hours.

The alarm raised was followed by the weather report observed movement of dust plumes from Niger and Chad, in relatively low visibility values.

The alert was contained in a statement released by NIMET following a weather report of movement of dust plumes from Niger Republic and Chad resulting in relatively low visibility values.

General Manager, Public Relations, Muntari Ibrahim said the dry season is in moderate horizontal visibility of 200m to 500m over Borno, Yobe, Katsina, Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi and Jigawa states while North-central states may report sunny conditions and hazy visibility of 5 to 7km.

NiMET said the weather condition will persist for the next 3 days while there will be a gradual increase in day-time temperatures and cautioned motorists to drive carefully.

The agency also advised persons with respiratory issues to apply necessary caution especially for out-door activities and told airline operators to avail themselves with updated weather reports for effective planning of flight operations.

NiMET said air passengers should expect flight cancellations and delays in the face of the reduced visibility and further advised motorists to adhere to recommended tyre pressures to avoid bursting.
