2023 Elections: CJN inaugurates election petition tribunal

The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, has inaugurated the 277-member Election Petition Tribunals ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Addressing members of the tribunal during their inauguration at the national judicial institute Abuja in Monday, Justice Ariwoola charged them to conduct their affairs within the ambit of the law.

Section 285 subsection 1 and 2 of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution as amended, empowers the President to constitute an election petition tribunal.

The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola advised the 277 members of the tribunal to conduct their affairs within the ambit of the law.

While sitting section 130 of the Electoral act on the constitution of the tribunal, the President of the court of appeal, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, also advised the tribunal members to stand up for what is right and just and be of good conscience at all times.

The tribunal members are to attend a four-day workshop aimed at equipping them and other justices with the requisite knowledge to effectively and efficiently handle election Petitions.
