A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has declared former Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Uchechukwu Ogah, as the duly elected governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State.

Justice Binta Nyako while delivering judgment invalidated the candidacy of Ikechi Emenike who was earlier recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the party’s candidate for the March 11, 2023 governorship election.

The court while upholding Ogah’s candidacy also directed the APC to recognize and also forward his name to INEC to publish as the party’s authentic candidate

The court made its decision on grounds that INEC monitored the primary that produced Uche Ogah’s Name as the governorship candidate for APC.

Ogah had sued Ikechi Emenike, APC, Abdulai Adamu and INEC, praying the court to compel APC to submit his name to INEC as the lawful candidate of the party.

The counsel for the Former Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development had told the court that the direct primary election that produced Ogah was monitored by officials of INEC and that a report to that effect was made available by the electoral act.
