Eko Bridge

The Federal Ministry of Works and Housing says the date to complete repair work on the Apongbon section of the Eko Bridge, earlier fixed for December 2022, has been extended to May 2023 because of the emergency repair to be undertaken on the Ijora Olopa section after the fire incident of November 4.

Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola in the company of officials of the Lagos State Government during an inspection tour of the burnt Eko Bridge said the frequent fire incidents under the facility due to the illegal activities of a few residents could lead to the collapse of the bridge.

Fashola said a joint action by the Federal and Lagos State Governments is underway to evict traders and illegal occupants operating under the bridges in the city to save lives and protect infrastructure.

The Minister further stated that tough laws are required by the government to protect the country’s bridges.
