The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says its office located in Iboko, the headquarters of Izzi local government area of Ebonyi State, South-East Nigeria has been burnt down by unknown persons.
The commission in a statement made available to journalists by the national commissioner and chairman, information and voter education committee, Festus Okoye said the incident occured at about 10.00am on sunday, nigerian time.
Okoye said, although no casualties were recorded in the attack, the main building of the office and all the movable and immovable items inside it were destroyed.

The items destroyed include 340 ballot boxes, 130 voting cubicles, 14 electric power generators, large water storage tanks, assorted office furniture and fixtures and yet to be determined quantities of permanent voters’ cards, pvcs.
The statement noted that the state resident electoral commissioner, REC, Onyeka Pauline Ugochi, reported the incident to the inec headquarters.
Okoye said the attention of the nigerian police and other security agencies has been drawn to the incident and investigations have begun.
the iboko attack is the third attack on inec local government offices in less than three weeks following similar attacks on facilities in ogun and osun states on november 10, 2022.
