Benue benefits from the AUDA-NEPAD programme on smallholder farmers, productive land restoration

Benue has been selected among 4 others to benefit from the pilot agricultural programme on Innovative Strengthening of Smallholder farmers and productive land restoration slated to take off during next year’s cropping season.

The programme is to be implemented by the African Union Development Agency’s New Partnership for Africa’s Development, AUDA-NEPAD in collaboration with the State Government and other private investors.

The National Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer of AUDA-NEPAD Nigeria, Princess Gloria Akobundu disclosed this when she led a delegation to pay a courtesy call on Governor Samuel Ortom at the Government House, Makurdi.

Insecurity particularly herder attacks leading to mass displacements, flooding and other factors has greatly affected productivity in agricultural activities threatening its status as the food basket of the nation in recent times.

In view of this, the African union development agency with its relevant partners led by its chief executive officer Gloria Akobundu was at the Government House to help the State fill In the gaps.

A move appreciated by the State Governor Samuel Ortom who was quick to make other demands.

It is expected that such intervention would attract more investments into the sector which is struggling to stay afloat.
