Following recent attacks by bandits on some communities around Birnin Gwari in Kaduna State, North-West Nigeria, victims of the attacks who are now displaced are appealing to the government for help.
The internally displaced persons, IDPs who are taking refuge at the Federal Forest Management Quarters say it is now difficult for them to get food to eat.
Men, women and children in their numbers are also exposed to the cold weather of the harmattan in the IDPs camp. They were sacked from their homes around Birnin Gwari by the bandits at the beginning of the new year.
With little or nothing to eat and no decent roof over their heads, their children loiter around. Home becomes a distance as they could only imagine how soon their plight will end.
They told AIT that their comfort has been blown by the winds and the joy of their little ones returning to school upon resumption shattered.
Their only wish is that the government will beef up security in Birnin Gwari communities in order to end the carnage of the banditry for them to return home.
