The Commandant General of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Umar Bakori, has appealed to President Muhammad Buhari to assent to the bill for the establishment of the group, already passed by the National Assembly.

The commandant appealed during a media briefing in Abuja.

The rising insecurity in the county has created the need for additional security consciousness.

For this reason, more paramilitary organisations are being established to assist conventional security agencies.

The bill for the establishment of the vigilante group is now with the president for his assent.

They are also appealing to the government to support the group to mitigate the worsening insecurity in the county.

The bill which was first passed into law by the House Of Representatives in November 2021, seeks to establish the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, with the powers to provide community policing, maintenance of law and order, as well as community service for Nigerians.
