Nigeria’s House of Representatives has asked relevant security agencies to fish out oil marketers and other economic saboteurs responsible for fuel scarcity across the country.

This followed the adoption of a Motion of Urgent Public Importance raised by a lawmaker, Leke Abejide on Wednesday.

The lawmaker had noted that the National Assembly had approved money for subsidies on petroleum products, to mitigate against unforeseen circumstances in the areas of shortages of the product.

He further noted that uneven pump prices were being dispensed by filling stations across the country, which fueled speculations that the government might have begun to remove subsidies on petrol.

The lawmaker said the current fuel crisis across the country could worsen in the days ahead, with the introduction of an N16.00 per litre charge.

The House of Reps immediately urged the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd, NNPC as a sole importer, to urgently ease off the queues in filling stations, while inviting the relevant regulatory authority to appear before the leadership of the House of Reps on January 26.
