Gov. Ortom / Late Rev. Fr. Michael Murphy

The Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has advocated that the Catholic Diocese of Makurdi should consider establishing a university to immortalize the late Rev. Fr. Michael Murphy, Benue’s longest-serving priest.

The Governor said the late Fr. Murphy had confided in him about his desire to build a Catholic University, hence his call on the Catholic Diocese of Makurdi to ensure the fulfillment of that dream, a legacy in honour of the late missionary priest.

Governor Ortom made the call during the commissioning of township roads in Makurdi, the state capital constructed by his administration.

The roads are named Fr. Michael Murphy crescent and Mrs. Victoria Azamber Puusu crescent.

62 years in service, the Late revered father Michael Murphy stands as Benue’s longest-serving Catholic Priest, he passed in November last year.

Posthumously the State Government chose to give honour to this worthy servant of God by constructing a road to link Saint Dominic’s high school.

Also honoured was Victoria Azamber Puusu as the other newly constructed road transversing the same area was named after her.

Both roads commissioned were part of the 6 roads whose contracts were recently awarded at the cost of 4.8 billion nairas some of which are completed with others are
varying levels of completion.
