The National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, has slammed the sum of two million Naira on one of Nigeria’s private broadcast stations TVC over a breach of the Nigerian Broadcasting Code in the countdown to the 2023 General Elections.

In a statement signed by the Director General of the commission Balarabe illelah the television station was found guilty of promoting hate speech, Derogatory and unfair comments on some of its programs.

The Commission cited comments credited to one of the APC presidential Campaign Council Members Festus keyamo where he used Derogatory words against the presidential Candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar.

In another instance, the Commission pointed out statements made by the APC presidential candidate Bola Tinubu during its Rally in Anambra state where he attacked the person of Atiku Abubakar and the Akwa Ibom state Governor Udom Emmanuel.

The Commission faulted Television Continental for using its platform to promote comments considered inflammatory and capable of causing dissatisfaction among citizens in the build-up to the Elections.

The Broadcast regulator also accused TVC of denying other political parties equal coverage in gross violation of the Broadcasting Code.
