Women in Mining President calls for Gender Equality

President and Founder of Women In Mining in Nigeria, Janet Adeyemi has called on government at all levels to ensure gender equality in Nigeria.

Adeyemi while making the call during the women in mining research validation and policy dialogue in Ado Ekiti on Saturday, also reaffirmed the danger which gender inequality continue to pose to women across Nigeria.

The WIMIN President who was represented by the group’s programme coordinator, Dennis Deloraine said Gender equality is something Nigeria is yet to fully attain and urged relevant stakeholders to be committed to the task of eradicating gender inequality

She called for an end to the violation of women’s rights in the solid minerals and other sectors.

Adeyemi said the essence of the workshop is to receive expert opinions and judgment from stakeholders and actors to validate whether or not, there is sexual and gender-based violence in the state solid mineral sector.

Others at the event urged relevant Government agencies including the ministry of justice to beam it’s searchlight on cases of Child labour and teenage pregnancy in Mining sites in Ire Ekiti and Ijero Ekiti

The Stakeholders called for the creation of more awareness and sensitisation on the menace while restructuring the complaints processes
