Women under the Federation of Muslim Women’s Association of Nigeria, FOMWAN, in Cross River State have cried out to the Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, over the scarcity of New Naira Notes for small-scale business owners to do their daily business.

Chairperson of the Muslim Women Organisation in the State, Hajia Lateefah Yahaya Idinye made the call during a Muslim advocacy group event tagged, “The Companion” in Calabar in Collaboration with FOMWAN.

She said despite their advocacy for Muslim women, the situation seems to have defied all solutions, foisting hardships on ordinary citizens due to the scarcity of new naira notes of all denominations in Cross River State.

On their part some Islamic scholars, Mallam Abdullahi Usman and Teslim Owolabi called on the President to ease the people’s sufferings by allowing both the Old and New Currency notes as legal tender.

The programme was organized to find common ground in the reign of confusion in many states, as businessmen and women reject old naira notes while the new notes are unavailable.
