The Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, has expressed worry over Nigeria’s naira crunch, fuel scarcity, and security threats among others, as the citizens go to the polls on Saturday.

these among other concerns were raised by the leader of the ECOWAS observer mission to Nigeria election, Ernest Koroma when he led his team on a visit to Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyema in Abuja.

The former Sierra Leonean leader said they are in Nigeria with great expectations.

Koroma said he has met with ECOWAS long-term observers and some political parties, adding that, they have raised concerns over the non-availability of basic necessities such as cash, as this limitation would affect the movement of INEC and the electorate.

Koroma said the election was critical to the sub-region as one out of every 4 members of ECOWAS is a Nigerian

According to him, Nigeria has made sacrifices for the region and insisted that Africa’s most populous country must live up to its expectations

A total of 250 observers will be deployed across the country and the mission is expected to issue comments and recommendations for future elections
