The Burning Of a Dumpsite in Lagos State Early hours of Sunday morning according to some Environmental experts Speaks volume about the difficulties Of Waste Management Across the Metropolis as well as it’s attendant Health and possible Flood Threats in the state.
They called for greater Collaboration between the Residents and the relevant authorities for a better management of generated domestic wastes which according to the state waste Management Agency ( LAWMA ) Reaches up to 390,000 To 450,000 Tonnes per month.
The Lagos State Government has in the past enforced strict regulations against burning of refuse ,
So it was worrisome when AIT Crew ran into this scene in the early hours of Sunday morning,on the 19th of July 2026.
From close observation, it seems that this situation has taken more than the authorities concerned can deal with considering the volume of refused dumped indiscriminately on daily basis.
Recently some traders and Residents around Oyinbo Market raised fresh alarm over heaps of pilled refuse and its attendant Health and Flood threats..
According to the Lagos State Waste Management Agency, there are about 13,000.00 tones of wastes is generated daily amounting to 390,000 metric tonnes on a monthly basis.
On upper estimate,it can get to 450,000 or 600,000 tonnes monthly, and getting more difficult to manage with the rains.
No matter the difficulty presently, there are healthier Alternatives suggested here.
Whatever Choice govt decides to adopt according to the experts, which excludes burning, the need for greater Collaboration with the residents remains critical for a healthier and livable Lagos State.
