The African Action Congress, AAC, has accused the Ekiti State Police Command of attempting to cover up the attack on its Presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, and members of his team.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the party faulted the Commissioner of Police, CP Falade Michael, for describing the incident as a mere altercation and the victims’ injuries as minor, despite reports of extensive injuries.
The AAC also alleged that the attackers stole phones, wristwatches and shoes from members of Sowore’s team. As at the time of filing this report, the police paraded 11 suspects who were arrested in connection with the attack after some of the stolen phones were traced.
The party further questioned the seizure of the restaurant’s CCTV footage and linked the Ekiti State incident to an earlier DSS operation in Rivers State, during which it alleged that a tracking device was planted on Sowore’s vehicle.

Describing the incidents as a possible coordinated assassination plot, the AAC called for an independent investigation into the alleged roles of the police, DSS and Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji.
The party demanded the immediate arrest of the attackers, release of the CCTV footage, recovery of the stolen property and adequate protection for Sowore.
It warned that failure by the authorities to act decisively could trigger mass protests at the Ekiti State Government House.
