The People’s Democratic Party, PDP in Abia State has elected Abraham Amah as its new chairman at a state congress in Umuahia, the state capital.
Abraham Amah polled 1,264 votes to defeat five other candidates in a keenly contested election with his closest rival polling 395 votes.
Amah promised to pursue reconciliation of aggrieved members and to bring back those who left the party.
Some party faithful commended the peaceful and transparent conduct of the election and the manner delegates from the 17 local government areas of the state conducted themselves.
The returning officer and deputy governor of Bayelsa State, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo announced the winners while declaring the readiness of the PDP to take back power come 2027.
Mass exodus of high-profile members hit the state chapter of the PDP after it lost the 2023 governorship election, a position it held for almost 24 years.
