A new Governing Council for the Abia State government owned University has been named.
Governor Okezie Ikpeazu at an event in Umuahia, the State capital, Wednesday inaugurated the newly reconstituted Governing Council of the Abia State University, Uturu.
Mba Ukariwe takes over as Pro Chancellor and Chairman of the Council, after Governor Ikpeazu abruptly dissolved the Council led by a former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara.
The Governor charged members of the Council to provide the lead in the growth and development of the institution as it occupies an important place in the comity of Universities in the country.

Governor Ikpeazu assures that the State government will continue to discuss with the management of the institution on the welfare of its staff, noting that steps have been taken to beef up security around the University community.
