Four persons have been rescued while several others are reportedly trapped in the rubble of a section of a two-storey residential apartment which collapsed in Abuja on Saturday morning.

The collapsed building is located along Sultan Dansuki Road in Kubwa, Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.

ait.live gathered that two of the rescued victims have been taken to the Kubwa General hospital as search efforts are ongoing for other person that may be trapped in the collapsed building.

The collapsed building, which contained 45 self-contained rooms, was previously used as a hotel before it was converted for residential purposes.

The FCT Emergency Management Department said in a statement by its spokesman, Nkechi Isa, that it received a distress call about the incident from passers by on its 112 emergency toll free number at about 6.45am.

The statement added that two of the rescued victims were taken to Kubwa General Hospital for medical treatment.

Other responders that were at the scene for the rescue operation included the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), FCT Fire Service, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Civil Defence Corps and the Nigeria Police

This latest building collapse incident in Abuja comes less than 24 hours after a school building collapsed on pupils in Plateau State, killing 22 and injuring one hundred and thirty-two persons.

It is also eleven days after another building collapsed at Unity House, Area 11, Garki, in Abuja.
