An Abuja High Court has sentenced a man, Nwachi Chidozie Kingsley, to seven years imprisonment for defrauding an American woman, Nicole Kierulff Sayers, of 205,238 dollars.
Justice U.P. Kekemeke of the FCT High Court, Maitama, convicted Kingsley on two counts of obtaining money by false pretence and possession of a document containing false pretence.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, said the convict deceived the American lawyer with a fake Federal Ministry of Works and Housing contract, claiming he needed money to facilitate its execution.
The court heard that Kingsley established a romantic relationship with the victim after contacting her on Facebook and subsequently received money from her through more than 125 transactions over a 12-month period.
The judge ordered that the seven-year prison terms run concurrently at the Kuje Correctional Centre, Abuja, without an option of fine.
He also directed the convict to refund the full sum of 205,238 dollars to the victim.
