Gender rights activists in Nigeria have called for a review of the 2003 Child Rights Act and the full implementation of the violence against persons prohibition law -VAPP at both state and federal levels in order to enhance effectiveness in response to sexual and gender-based violence-SGBV cases.

At a sensitization program organized for school boys in Abuja by FAME Foundation with support from the French Embassy in Nigeria as part of the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence -GBV, the group emphasized the need to embed men and boys in the fight against GBV.

Speakers at the forum Identified absence of cordial relationships between parents and their children as a factor that contributes to increased GBV issues and the seeming lack of lasting solutions to them.

The VAPP law which has already been passed in 35 states of the federation is a key piece of legislation that covers provision of sexual assaults referral centres in Nigeria for the protection of victims and survivors of sexual and gender based violence.
