Deji Adeyanju, a human rights activist and convener of Concerned Nigerians, has visited the Keffi correctional facility in Nasarawa state, a year after he was released from the facility.
Adeyanju visited the correctional facility alongside some colleagues on Wednesday.
During the visit, the activist paid the fine of 16 convicts with the money he said was given to him as a bribe by the Federal Government to not protest the illegal detention of Omoyele Sowore, convener of the Revolution Now movement.
He also interacted with the inmates and admonished them to desist from crime.
“He who commits crime, prison is his natural constituency. I also told them that police will not stop arresting them if they don’t stop committing crime,” he said.
speaking further, Adeyanju promised to extend same gesture to the inmates at Kuje correctional services.
“I will also visit the inmates at Kuje correctional services where i plan to replicate same gesture to them.
Adeyanju was remanded in the prison in 2018 over trumped-up charges that had been dismissed.
He was later sent back after being arraigned by the police over fresh charges including “criminal defamation, disturbance of public peace, threat security and safety and inciting public disturbance”.
