President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday received several messages of condolences from foreign and national leaders over the death of Abba Kyari, his late Chief of Staff.
The President received telephone calls from President Nana Akuffo-Ado of Ghana and President Muhammadou Youssoufou of Niger Republic.
He also received calls of condolences from ex-President Yayi Boni of Benin Republic and two former Nigerian Heads of State, Generals Yakubu Gowon and Abdulsalami Abubakar.
In a statement issued by his senior special assistant on media and publicity Garba Shehu, President Buhari also received similar messages of condolence from the embassies of friendly countries including Egypt, Chad and Liberia.
Meanwhile, the Secretary-General of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries, OPEC Sanusi Barkindo has on behalf of the member countries offered condolences to President Buhari, the deceased family and the entire people of Nigeria over the demise of the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari.

Bakindo says Kyari was a gallant public servant, fiercely loyal to the common good and that when one was in his company, it was very clear that he was somebody who joined public service for all the right reasons.
He adds that “while this is of course a time of profound sorrow, we also take succour from his exemplary life, his courage, his dedication to duty and love of country”.
The statement also says that “Mallam Abba’s passing is another stark reminder of how Covid-19 has cast a terrible shadow over all of humanity. At this dreadful hour, we give thanks for your strong leadership and look to the timeless principles of cooperation and fraternity among all nations and peoples of the world to guide us through the darkest period in living memory“.
