The International Fund for Agricultural Development-Value Chain Development Programme (IFAD-VCDP), says it is putting together modalities that will ensure the mitigation of the impact of flooding across the most affected VCDP operating states in Nigeria.

Speaking to newsmen at the 5th implementation mission wrap up workshop in Abuja, the country director, IFAD, Dede Ekuoe, identified Smart Agriculture as one of the measures to be taken.

The value chain development programme (VCDP) implementation support mission, is targeted at assessing the achievements and challenges in the cause of the programme implementation.

The 5th mission wrap up meeting in Abuja outlined some of the challenges observed in the field as a trajectory for accelerated implementation of the full programme.

The VCDP’s acting National Programme Coordinator, Fatima Aliyu, insists on the immediate commencement of dry season farming across the states to ensure food security for the rural farmers whose crops were washed away by the flood.

The programme coordinator identified some of the worst affected states to include Kogi and Anambra and added that
the wrap-up meeting was to review the progress and the challenges confronting the VCDP project and suggest solutions to all the identified challenges.
