Nigeria Police Force says it has invited Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, Lagos, Moshood Jimoh, for questioning over allegations made against him and has also invited social media personality, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, to substantiate allegations he has made publicly.
Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, says the criminal matter referenced by VeryDarkMan has been investigated and is before a court of competent jurisdiction following legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.
The allegations stem from VeryDarkMan’s public claims that AIG Jimoh improperly handled the investigation into the Ajiran double murder case, alleging corruption, bias and abuse of office in connection with the prosecution of a businessman linked to the case. The allegations have been denied, and the matter is before the courts.
Iniedu says because the matter is before the court, the Police will not try the case in the media or allow public commentary to influence the judicial process.
He says the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department has invited AIG Jimoh for questioning as part of the Force’s internal accountability process.
He says the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Abuja, formally invited VeryDarkMan on July 30 to appear before investigators and substantiate his allegations.
According to Iniedu, the invitations reflect the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to investigating all credible allegations of misconduct, regardless of the rank of the officer involved or the public profile of the complainant.
He urges VeryDarkMan to honour the invitation, cooperate with the ongoing administrative review and allow the judicial process relating to the separate criminal matter to run its course.
Iniedu adds that any officer found culpable after due investigation will face sanctions in accordance with the law. He says the Force also reserves the right to pursue legal remedies where allegations are found to be false and deliberately intended to damage the reputation of an officer or the institution.
