The Akwa Ibom state government has announced the immediate shutdown of all livestock markets in the state.
It says no new consignment of livestock including goats, cows and rams will be allowed into the state till further notice.
The secretary to the state government, emmanuel ekuwem
in a release said livestock sellers are to sell off their stock and shutdown afterwards with a warning that defaulters will be prosecuted.
Though no reason was given for the action, it may not be unconnected to measures taken by the Akwa Ibom State Government to limit the spread of the Coronavirus from other states.

Akwa Ibom State currently has 17 confirm cases of the Covid-19.
