Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel has charged Nigeria Professional Football League Champions, Akwa United to fly higher the flag of Nigeria at Africa’s premier club competition – the CAF Champions League and bring glory and honour to the state and the country.
Governor Emmanuel gave the charge during a Church service which was attended by top government officials as well as management and players of Akwa United Football Club at the Latter House Chapel, Governor’s Lodge, Uyo on Sunday.

The state chief executive congratulated Akwa United for emerging Champions of the just concluded NPFL season and assured the team of his administration’s continued support.
“I wish to congratulate the management and players of Akwa United for winning the NPFL title last season. We are now embarking on a continental campaign, and God has directed that we should pray for you. When God directs that you should be prayed for, please don’t take it for granted.
“In this continental campaign, you will be using flights for your matches outside the country and you never can tell, but we believe that it’s only God that can keep those aircrafts at technical efficiency to take you out and bring you back safely, so I pray for you as the father of this state that God should bless and keep you.
Governor Emmanuel continued, “We are solidly behind you, not just as a state but the whole of Nigeria is supporting you. Remember, it’s a great honour to fly the flag of your country, so don’t take this for granted.
“You are all professionals and I pray that God should take you to the peak of your profession and with the power of focus, you will make a whole lot of difference. When you are focused in whatever you do, you will get the benefit and God will take the glory. I wish you great success in today’s outing and in all subsequent ones” said Governor Emmanuel.
The Promise Keepers who have won two FA Cup titles and a league trophy all under Governor Emmanuel’s administration, will today Sunday 12th September, 2021 begin their quest for a maiden CAF Champions League title as they take on Algerian Champions CR Belouizdad at the Nest of Champions by 3pm.
