The cyberbullying trial of African Action Congress, AAC presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has been adjourned on grounds that he was absent and wrote to the Federal High Court in Abuja, requesting a postponement.
During proceedings, prosecution counsel, Akinlolu Kehinde, SAN, informed the court about Sowore’s absence, prompting the Defence counsel to inform the court that the defendant was in Ekiti State for his presidential campaign.
She also requested a stand-down to allow another senior lawyer, who had been at the court earlier, to return and handle the defence.
Justice Mohammed Umar subsequently drew the lawyers’ attention to a letter from Sowore seeking an adjournment.
Kehinde said he had not been served directly with the court without copying the prosecution.
He maintained that there was no indication that Sowore had withdrawn the services of his lawyer, Olumide-Fusika.
The prosecution, however, did not oppose the adjournment, citing the interest of justice.
Kehinde also informed the court that the defence had yet to respond to his written address on whether he could be subpoenaed to testify as a defence witness.
Justice Umar adjourned the case until November 3 for the adoption of addresses and continuation of the defence.
