Trial of former Taraba State Governor, Darius Ishaku, and ex-permanent secretary, Bello Yero, continued on Tuesday at the Federal Capital Territory, FCT High Court in Abuja.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC is prosecuting both men on a 15-count charge, including criminal breach of trust, conspiracy, and the alleged diversion of N27 billion in public funds.

At Tuesday’s hearing, the prosecution presented its third witness, Taiwo Johns, a staff member in Taraba State’s Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

Earlier, the second prosecution witness told the court that he had a close relationship with Bello Yero and acted on his instructions to disburse funds. He also admitted receiving money linked to the case, some of which he used for personal business.

Testifying in court, the Chinese third witness explained his role in handling financial records, preparing payroll, and assisting with cash disbursements for government activities.

He told the court that funds were sometimes released to local government officials and the ALGON chairman from a designated contingency account, jointly managed by senior officials including Bello Yero.

The court has adjourned the case until Thursday for continuation of the witness’s testimony.
