The Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun, has arrested ninety-eight suspected criminals, including individuals allegedly disguising as mentally unstable persons to facilitate kidnapping, robbery and other criminal activities across the state.
The Commander of the Corps, Adetunji Adeleye, disclosed this while parading the suspects at the agency’s headquarters over the weekend.
Adeleye said the arrests were made during a series of intelligence-driven operations carried out across different parts of the state.
According to him, the suspects were apprehended for offences ranging from kidnapping and armed robbery to drug trafficking and other acts capable of disturbing public peace.
The Amotekun Commander revealed that investigations uncovered a new strategy allegedly adopted by some criminal elements who disguise themselves as lunatics in order to evade suspicion while carrying out criminal activities.
He also recounted the rescue of a kidnapped couple in Ilu-Abo Community, Akure North Local Government area of the state.
Adeleye added that sixty of the suspects are currently being prosecuted in courts of competent jurisdiction, while thirty-eight other cases were resolved through the Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanism.
