There is a raging fire at Elechi in Diobu neighbourhood of Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital in South-South Nigeria that has destroyed property worth millions of naira.
Residents who spoked to ait.live could not exactly say what triggered the fire. While some attributed it to an electric spark from a pole others said illegal bunkering activities could have been responsible for the inferno.
Some of those affected by the incident lamented over the destruction of their property while others say they are worried over the whereabouts of their children following the confusion that ensued after the fire outbreak.
Youths of the area resorted to self help to put out the fire when efforts to reach the Rivers State Fire Service through distress calls did not yield any results.
The inferno at the Elechi is the fourth fire disaster in Port Harcourt within a period of one week.
