The opposition Labour Party (LP) has lost another member, Fom Dalyop Chollom, to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nigeria’s House of Representatives.
The member, who represents Barkin Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency of Plateau State, was received at plenary by former Governor of the State, Simon Lalong, and other members of the All Progressives Congress
The lawmaker in his letter to the House cited division and leadership crisis in the Labour Party as reasons for his defection, but the Minority leader of the Green Chamber, Kingsley Chinda, and leader of the Labour Party caucus, George Ozodinobi both objected to his reasons, and asked that his seat be declared vacant for flouting the provisions of the Nigerian constitution.
The Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, however, ruled both lawmakers out of order, maintaining that all laid down procedures were followed by Fom Dalyop Cholom before his defection.
