It was meant to be a peace and reconciliation meeting in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, North-Central Nigeria but it ended in mourning, as the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the LGA, Oyewole Mayowa Solomon, slumped and died during the meeting.
The incident occurred at the Iyara Town Hall, the administrative headquarters of Ijumu LGA.
According to participants, the meeting was in progress when the party chairman suddenly collapsed, sparking confusion and panic among political leaders and delegates present.
He was immediately rushed to a medical facility in neighbouring Kabba, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
As at the time of this report, the exact cause of death has not been officially disclosed. Formal statements from the APC state executive and local authorities are still being awaited.
AIT.live gathered that the meeting was convened by former Chairman of Ijumu LGA, Funsho Olumoko. He was mandated by the Ijumu Consultative Forum to harmonise political interests, reconcile factions, resolve internal disputes, and foster unity among stakeholders ahead of future political activities.

This initiative followed an earlier meeting in Iyara where APC stakeholders in the LGA had endorsed President Bola Tinubu and Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, for their second term.
Sources said previous session of the meeting was marred by friction over local government leadership, which led to a walkout by the late chairman and some top government officials.
Friday’s meeting was therefore convened to bridge those divisions and bring together selected political leaders, local government and ward executives, women and youth leaders, as well as government appointees from all 15 wards of Ijumu Local Government Area.
