Benue State Governor Dr. Hyacinth Alia, has successfully scaled the screening process of the All Progressives Congress, APC and has been officially certified to contest the primaries for nomination as candidate for 2027 governorship election on the platform of the party.

A statement by his chief press secretary, Tersoo Kula indicates that the screening exercise was conducted at the Plateau State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, the venue for the screening exercise for incumbent Governors.

APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Goshwe chaired the screening committee constituted to assess aspirants seeking to fly the party’s flag in the 2027 Governorship elections.

The Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for the party primaries were procured for Governor Hyacinth Alia by Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP, Benue Chapter and the Benue State Motorcycle Association, BEMOA.

Leadership of the two unions pointed to the massive turn around of the fortunes of the state, the human face nature of the Governor Alia’s administration as reasons they want him back to Government House to consolidate the gains.

The certification of the Governor is widely regarded by political observers and stakeholders as a significant milestone in the consolidation of his political standing within the APC, especially in view of ongoing consultations and strategic alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Governor, whose administration has consistently emphasised infrastructural renewal, security enhancement, civil service reforms, and social welfare interventions across Benue State, emerged from the screening process successfully after satisfying the constitutional and party requirements stipulated by the APC.

The certification also signals the commencement of heightened political activities within the APC as preparations gradually gather momentum towards the 2027 electoral cycle.

Governor Hyacinth Alia was elected Governor of Benue State in 2023 under the APC platform and has since maintained a visible presence in the state’s political and governance landscape.

Meanwhile, APC has also cleared Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, to contest in the primaries of the party for a ticket to his second bid in the 2027 governorship election.

This was contained in a statement signed by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature on Friday.

The clearance followed the successful screening of Governor Yusuf by the APC National Working Committee after submitting his nomination and screening forms.

APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwada who led the screening committee at Plateau State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, said the party confirmed that Governor Yusuf satisfied all requirements to contest for the Governorship ticket.

Following the screening exercise, he was declared, so far as the sole contender for the APC governorship ticket in Kano State ahead of the 2027 election.

Speaking, Governor Yusuf expressed appreciation to the leadership of the party for the confidence reposed in him.

He reaffirmed his commitment to delivering more dividends of democracy and sustaining policies that promote peace, economic growth and inclusive development across Kano State.

The Governor also called on party members and supporters to remain united and continue working together for the progress of the state and victory in 2027.
