Presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, Seyi Makinde, has declared that Nigeria needs an urgent reset to tackle hunger, insecurity and political exclusion, promising to rebuild the country’s economy, security architecture and socio-political system if elected in 2027.
Makinde spoke on Saturday at the APM Presidential campaign rally in Bauchi State, North-East Nigeria, where he urged Nigerians dissatisfied with the current state of the country to support the APM’s Agenda.
Describing hunger as Nigeria’s biggest problem, the Oyo State Governor says Nigeria needs an economic reset, a restructured security architecture and a more inclusive political environment.
Makinde also urges voters not to allow financial inducements to determine their choices, telling supporters to collect any money offered during the campaign but vote according to their conscience.
The Oyo State Governor’s running mate, Lawal Daura, says the APM is determined to end what he described as the politics of deceit and hypocrisy, insisting that the party’s proposed government would be inclusive and accountable as he adds that Nigerians, irrespective of religion, ethnicity or background, would have a place in government and participate in developing a common national development plan.
Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed who is also the APM’s National Leader, describes the party as a sanctuary for himself and Makinde after what he called injustice in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. The Bauchi Governor endorsed Makinde’s leadership credentials, saying his performance in Oyo State and commitment to National inclusion informed his support for the Presidential Candidate.
Mohammed says the proposed Government of National Unity would guarantee justice, equity and fairness in appointments, warning against the concentration of public positions in the hands of one ethnic group. He says more than 100,000 government positions must be distributed in accordance with federal character and merit, stressing that no section of the country should be marginalised.
