Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Most Reverend Dr. Ignatius Kaigama, has called on the Federal Government to declare November 1 a public holiday to commemorate All Saints’ Day.
The Archbishop says the move would provide an opportunity for Nigerians to honour the saints and reflect on their exemplary lives.
For millions of Catholic faithful around the world, November 1 is a day of solemn reflection and celebration, dedicated to honouring all saints, known and unknown, who, according to Christian belief, have attained heavenly glory.
In Abuja, the celebration brought together worshippers in parishes across the city, as the faithful gathered for the Holy Eucharist and reflected on the lives and virtues of the saints.
At the heart of this year’s celebration is a call by Most Reverend Kaigama, for the Federal Government of Nigeria, FGN, to declare All Saints’ Day a public holiday.
He believes setting aside a day for the observance would provide an opportunity for Nigerians to reflect on the significance of the saints and their enduring examples of faith, sacrifice and service.
The Archbishop further emphasised that All Saints’ Day is more than a date on the Christian liturgical calendar. It is a reminder of the universal call to holiness and the responsibility of the faithful to live lives worthy of emulation.
As the faithful celebrate the lives of those who have gone before them, the message of All Saints’ Day remains a call to holiness, selfless service and a life of faith.
